TOWSON, Md. ? More than 3,000 middle school and elementary school students from 37 local schools will congregate at the Towson Center on the campus of Towson University as the Tiger gymnastics program hosts its annual Gymnastics Field Trip on Wednesday, January 6 at 10:30 a.m.
This will mark the 16th time since 1991 that Towson Head Coach Dick Filbert and Assistant Coach Lynda Filbert have hosted the Gymnastics Field Trip. Scheduling conflicts and weather problems have prevented the Tigers from hosting the field trip every year.
?This is always an enjoyable event,? says Lynda Filbert, the coordinator of the Field Trip. ?The gymnasts love to perform in front of large crowds and they enjoy interacting with all the students attending the event.
?The teachers and students also seem to have a good time and it?s a great opportunity to showcase the campus while providing the students an opportunity to learn.?
The Gymnastics Field Trip will be emceed by Keith Mills of WBAL-Radio, a 1978 Towson graduate who will be making his tenth appearance at the Gymnastics Field Trip.
Coach Dick Filbert, a former Physical Education instructor in Howard County, will serve as the instructor for the Field Trip, narrating the various demonstrations by the Tiger gymnasts.
Led by seniors Jackie Schweitzer and Alise McDonald, the Tiger gymnastics team will open its season on January 15 at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
The Tigers, who are seeking their sixth consecutive ECAC championship, open their four-meet home schedule on Saturday, January 26.
