TOWSON, Md. ? Senior Molly Gorman and sophomore Sara Eichelberger of the Tiger women?s golf team were recently named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team.
Eichelberger, an Electronic Media/Film major with a 3.98 grade point average, is being honored for a second year by the NGCA. This is a first time selection for Gorman, an Elementary Education major with a 3.67 GPA.
The two Tigers were among 410 women collegiate golfers recognized nationally representing NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III teams. Eichelberger and Gorman were two of only six Colonial Athletic Association golfers so honored.
Both Eichelberger and Gorman were instrumental in leading the Tigers to a very successful 2008-09 season. The Tigers won three tournament titles and played to their best finish ever in the CAA championships with a sixth place. Their two previous finishes were eighth in 2007 and seventh in 2008.
Gorman played eight events for the Tigers last year, finishing with an 84.1 average. She carded a career-round 77 to help Towson win the Mt. St. Mary?s Spring Invitational. Eichelberger averaged 81.4 strokes for nine events, the third best average on the team. She posted two top 10 finishes including a second place to lead Towson to the Lonnie Barton Memorial title. She shot a career low 73 and finished seventh at the Mt. St. Mary?s tournament.
