TOWSON, Md. ? Game times are now set for all games on the 2009 Towson University football schedule.
The Tigers will open their 41st season at Northwestern University on Saturday, September 5 at 11:00 a.m. (Central Time). The Towson-Northwestern game, which will mark the debut of Rob Ambrose as the Tigers? new coach, will be televised by the The Big Ten Network.
Northwestern will be the second NCAA BCS program that the Tigers have ever played. In 2008, Towson opened its season with a loss at Navy. The Wildcats, who have 14 starters returning, posted a 9-4 record last season and played in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Two weeks after their season opener at Northwestern, the Tigers will open their home schedule when they face Coastal Carolina at Johnny Unitas? Stadium on Saturday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers? matchup with Coastal Carolina is their only night game of the 2009 season.
On Saturday, September 26, Towson plays its final non-conference game of the season when the Tigers visit cross-town rival Morgan State at 4:00 p.m. This will be the 22nd meeting between Towson and Morgan.
The Tigers open Colonial Athletic Association action on Saturday, October 3 when they host powerful New Hampshire at Johnny Unitas? Stadium at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised by Comcast SportsNet in the Mid-Atlantic and New England areas. It will also be a highlight of Family Weekend on the Towson campus. Last year, New Hampshire won the CAA Northern Division title and reached the NCAA FCS quarter-finals. UNH ended the season with a 10-3 record.
On Saturday, October 10, the Tigers travel to the University of Rhode Island for a 1:00 game against the Rams at Meade Stadium.
One week later, Towson returns to Johnny Unitas? Stadium for its Homecoming Game against Delaware on Saturday, October 17. The Tigers and the Blue Hens, who will be meeting for the 11th time, are slated for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
The Tigers go back on the road on Saturday, October 24 when they visit Northeastern University. Game time at Parsons Field is 1:00 p.m.
On Saturday, October 31, the Tigers return to Johnny Unitas? Stadium to host defending national champion Richmond at 1:00 p.m. Last December, the Spiders beat Montana for the national title by 24-7, capping off a season in which they posted a 13-3 record.
Towson returns to the road on Saturday, November 7 for a 1:30 game at William & Mary.
The Tigers close out their home schedule on Saturday, November 14 when they host Villanova at Johnny Unitas ? Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Villanova posted a 10-3 record last season and reached the quarter-finals of the NCAA FCS playoffs. However, the Wildcats had to come from behind to pull out a 34-31 win over Towson in the next-to-last game of the regular season.
Towson closes out the regular season on Saturday, November 21 at James Madison University. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. The Dukes, who were the top-ranked team in NCAA FCS at the end of last year, compiled a 12-2 record in 2008 and reached the semi-finals of the NCAA FCS Playoffs. Towson and JMU will be facing each other in the regular season finale for the sixth year in a row.
