TOWSON, Md. ? Student-athletes at Towson University compiled a 3.05 grade point average during the Spring, 2008 semester, according to Director of Athletics Mike Hermann.
In addition, 14 of the Tigers? 20 intercollegiate teams had semester G.P.A.?s over 3.00. The women?s indoor track team, coached by Roger Erricker, had the highest G.P.A. for the semester with a 3.47 mark. The women?s outdoor track team was second with a 3.43 G.P.A. while the women?s cross country team earned a 3.41 G.P.A.
The Tiger women?s tennis team, coached by Peter Walten, earned a 3.41 G.P.A. to place fourth among all the Tiger teams.
With a 3.36 cumulative G.P.A., the Tiger women?s tennis team has the highest mark among all of the Tigers? athletic teams. The Tiger field hockey team ranks second with a 3.32 cumulative G.P.A.
An impressive total of 20 student-athletes compiled perfect 4.00 G.P.A.?s during the Spring semester.
The Tiger track and field team led the women?s squads as three student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 grades. Seniors Michelle Donadio (Franklin H.S./Reisterstown, Md.) and Britta Nelson (Havre de Grace H.S./Havre de Grace, Md.) joined junior Alea Murphy (Abington Heights H.S./Clarks Summit, Pa.) as 4.0 students.
Sophomore Charlotte Wells (Reservoir H.S./Clarksville, Md.) and freshman Danielle Dilts (Toms River North H.S./Toms River, N.J.) of the Colonial Athletic Association champion women?s swimming and diving team also earned 4.0 G.P.A.?s while sophomore Jaclyn Tamburo (Dulaney H.S./Lutherville, Md.) and freshman Caitlin White (Wall H.S./Wall Township, N.J.) of the tennis team were 4.0 students.
In addition, senior Gabby Mink (William Allen H.S./Allentown, Pa.) of the field hockey team, junior Lindsey Neighbors (Heritage Hills H.S./Santa Claus, Ind.) of the volleyball team and sophomore golfer Sara Eichelberger (Nazareth Academy/Rochester, N.Y.) completed the female contingent of student-athletes who had perfect 4.0 G.P.A.?s in the Spring semester.
Led by senior co-captains Timmy Andre (Chaminade H.S./Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Ryan O?Donnell (Henderson H.S./West Chester, Pa.), the Tiger men?s lacrosse team had three players with 4.0 G.P.A.?s in the Spring. Junior Randall Cooper (Friends School/Phoenix, Md.) also had a 4.0 G.P.A. in the semester.
From the Colonial Athletic Association runner-up Tiger baseball team, senior pitcher Jon Dupski (Centennial H.S./Ellicott City, Md.) and senior first baseman Greg Furmanek (Magruder H.S./Olney, Md.) had 4.0 G.P.A.?s. Dupski, who set a school record with 72 pitching appearances in his career, was honored as a third team Academic All-America ? selection in June.
Junior defensive back Jeff Snow (Brother Rice H.S./Southfield, Mich.) and freshman defensive tackle Yaky Ibia (South Lakes H.S./Reston, Va.) of the football squad also had perfect semesters.
Junior golfer Ryan Thiele (Parkside H.S./Salisbury, Md.) and sophomore Eric Lynch (Lancaster H.S./Lancaster, N.Y.) of the men?s soccer team round out the group of Tiger student-athletes who earned 4.0 G.P.A.?s in the Spring.
