TOWSON, Md. ? Towson Athletics plans to turn back the clock to 1974 on Saturday, April 12 when the Tiger men?s lacrosse team hosts Colonial Athletic Association foe Drexel at Johnny Unitas? Stadium. Opening face-off is scheduled for 3 p.m., and the game will be televised live on CN8 on the East Coast.
With discounted prices on tickets and concessions, retro uniforms and classic music, the Tigers hope to recreate the lively atmosphere of 1974 when the then-Towson State University Tigers won the NCAA Division II men?s lacrosse championship. The 2008 season marks the 50th year of lacrosse at the University and the ?Turn Back the Clock? theme is a fun way to commemorate the championship season as part of the year-long celebration.
Tickets for adults are only two dollars, while senior citizens and children 17 and under will pay just one dollar. Game programs will be sold for 50 cents, while hot dogs and popcorn at the concession stands will cost fans only a dollar. In addition, the stadium will rock with classic tunes from the mid-1970s all day long.
With the help of LaxWorld, the Tigers will be outfitted in vintage uniforms similar to the ones worn by the 1974 title team, which posted a 14-1 record en route to the school?s first men?s lacrosse national championship.
A full weekend schedule of events is on tap beginning with the Tiger women’s lacrosse team hosting George Mason and the men?s 50th Anniversary Dinner on Friday evening. Saturday?s events are highlighted by the men?s game against Drexel followed by the annual Towson Lacrosse bull and oyster roast.
