VOLLEYBALL: Tigers Honored by NCAA for Academic Success

The Towson University volleyball team has been recognized as a recipient of the NCAA Academic Performance Program Public Recognition Award, it has been announced by the NCAA.

One of three Colonial Athletic Association volleyball teams to receive the honor, the Tigers have scored a perfect 1000 score on the Academic Progress Rate over the last three academic years. To earn the award, a score must have an APR score between 975 and 1000.

Overall, the 839 teams receiving awards this year represent 217 NCAA Division I college and universities. ?In the short time that I?ve been at Towson, I?ve quickly identified the academic achievement of our student-athletes as one of the real strengths of our program,? Towson Director of Athletics Mike Hermann said. ?It?s terrific to have a program do so well academically while putting together back-to-back-to-back 20 wins on the volleyball court. The young women on the volleyball team really define the word student-athlete.?

Coming off a 22-9 season last year under first-year Coach Paul Koncir, the Tigers will open the 2007 schedule on August 24 and 25 at the Morehead State University Tournament.
