Towson University’s Division of Economic and Community Outreach serves as the secretariat for the International Colloquium for Information System Security Education (CISSE) and will co-sponsor the ninth annual colloquium in Atlanta, GA, June 6-9, 2005. Other colloquium co-sponsors are the National Security Agency, Cisco Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, George Washington University, United States Military Academy, and the National Information Assurance and Education Training Center.
The Colloquium provides a forum for dialogue among leading figures in government, industry and academia to work in partnership to define current and emerging requirements for information security education, and to influence and encourage the development and expansion of information security curricula especially at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
During the CISSE, President Bush?s committee ? Committee on National Security Systems, and the National Security Agency (NSA) recognizes academic institutions for successfully mapping their information assurance (IA) curriculum to the National Security Telecommunications Standards. The NSA notified TU in November 2004 that its IA curriculum was mapped to the five federal standards ? only 12 universities in the Nation have achieved this recognition. Additionally, the NSA and the Department for Homeland Security will recognize the new and current (university) Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE). TU has been a nationally recognized CAE/IAE since 2002.
