FrontPage Replaced by SharePoint Designer

Microsoft has retired FrontPage and replaced it with two new products: Expression Web and SharePoint Designer. As FrontPage has long been the supported Web-authoring application at TU, this change will affect students, faculty and staff alike.

At the end of the fall 2008 semester, OTS will remove the FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE) from the Tiger student Web server. This removal will change the procedure by which many FrontPage users open their sites for editing and may necessitate revisions to existing web pages.

Because Microsoft will continue to support the extensions that run on the Pages web server through 2010, faculty and staff need not change how they edit their personal sites for the time being. Nevertheless, if you routinely make site development assignments in the courses you teach, you may need to adjust your instruction and handouts before next semester.

OTS is developing resources and training opportunities to help FrontPage users make the transition successfully. We will post detailed information and resources at {http://wwwnew.towson.edu/adminfinance/ots/trainingdoc/fp2spd.asp} as they become available.
