SOFTWARE TIP OF THE WEEK
Microsoft Word 2003/2007: Change the Spacing between Characters
Sometimes a preferred font might look squished or, other times, you will find you have one pesky word that keeps bumping to the next page. Both difficulties can be easily corrected by adjusting the character spacing of selected text.
1. Select the text you wish to alter.
2. In Word 2003, select Format > Font from the menu bar and click the Character Spacing tab (In Word 2007, press CTRL+D on the keyboard and click the Character Spacing tab).
3. Click the drop down arrow next to Spacing and choose Expanded or Condensed.
4. Adjust the spacing by changing the number displayed in the By box next to Spacing.
5. View your character spacing change in the Preview window at the bottom of the Font dialog box.
6. Click OK to accept the changes.
