Towson University Buildings Win Design Awards

Towson University received acclimations for two newly-constructed campus buildings at the American Institute of Architects? Maryland Design Awards held recently in College Park.

The university was presented with a merit award for the Center for the Arts building and a citation award for the Childcare Center at the Sept 27 ceremony held in College Park’s alumni building. David Mayhew, Towson University’s Director of Architecture, Engineering and Construction, said the awards were an honor that reflect the university’s commitment to high quality design and construction.

The South Carolina chapter of the AIA selected 25 winners out of a field of 142 submissions that included both public and private buildings. The most innovative buildings were given an honor award, followed by merit awards and citation awards. An award for the Public Building of the Year was also presented.

The university is set to receive additional awards for the Childcare Center and University Club this fall. For more information about the 2007 Maryland Design Awards, go to {http://www.aiamd.org/design_awards.htm}
