SOFTWARE TIP OF THE WEEK

OTS Training is pleased to announce the addition of two new learning opportunities beginning in January 2011 for faculty, staff and students: Ask the PC Tech Trainer and Ask the Mac Tech Trainer. Join us for open CIAT lab hours. Simply come to the CIAT lab (Cook Library, Room 405) during the open lab hours and ask away. We will help you with your PC and MAC questions. Please see the descriptions below for more information on this new service and go to {http://fusion.towson.edu/www/ciat/workshops/} to view a list of dates and to enroll in these open lab session (although you may just show up as well).

Ask the PC Tech Trainer

Do you have questions relating to a TU-supported software package? If you are a PC user on campus and need some one-on-one time with a software trainer, the “Ask the PC Tech Trainer” open lab is designed for you. Simply come to the CIAT lab during the prescribed open lab hours and ask questions and seek help. Bring your file with you if you wish. During this time, you can obtain training on the following: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Windows XP, Vista or 7 or any other TU-supported software package.

Ask the Mac Tech Trainer

If you are a Mac user on campus and need some one-on-one time with a Mac trainer, the “Ask the Mac Tech Trainer” open lab is designed for you. Unlike a Genius bar appointment, simply come to the CIAT lab during the prescribed open lab hours and ask questions and seek help related to your Mac. During this time, you can obtain training on the following: using your Mac on campus (connecting to a printer, network drives, wireless etc.); Office for Mac (understanding Outlook 2011, Entourage, Word, Excel and PowerPoint); utilizing the iLife suite (creating a movie in movie maker, making a DVD, storing and organizing photos in iPhoto); Simple website creation using iWeb; Mac 101 general information topics such as the dock, automator, expose, spaces; switching to a Mac (understanding Finder, Spotlight and setting up preferences to meet your needs).
