The campus has recently experienced a rise in the theft of global positioning systems (GPSs) from parked and unoccupied vehicles on campus. So far this year, there have been six reported thefts of GPS devices from vehicles parked on campus, with incidents occurring both during the day and at night.
The TUPD has increased its patrols of parking areas in an effort to prevent the thefts and apprehend the persons responsible. We ask that the campus community assist us in preventing additional thefts by notifying the TUPD at 410-704-2133 of any suspicious persons in campus parking areas. In addition, we recommend that individuals parking on campus remove all visible signs of GPS devices, including mounting brackets, from the view of potential thieves. If possible, these devices should be stored in the trunk of the vehicle or in another secure compartment that is out of the sight of passersby. As always, you should keep your vehicle locked when it is unoccupied, with windows fully closed.
