Parking Update for Fall

On behalf of: Assistant to the President for Communications

Towson is in an exciting period of growth and change. As we focus on the new academic year and the energy that our students bring to campus, I know we are all thinking about the same thing?.where is my parking space?

The campus community engaged in many discussions about parking, and the President?s Council reviewed recommendations from the Vice Presidents and their staffs. This is an update on the progressive improvements that will occur over the next year. You?ll receive frequent updates on parking ? watch for the TIGER PARKING SIGN.

SEPTEMBER 2006
In order to maintain a safe campus and ensure parking spaces for permit holders, there will be stricter enforcement of existing parking policies. Please visit the website for more information: {http://wwwnew.towson.edu/adminfinance/auxservices/parking/}

Improved signage in all lots will help you determine if you are parked legally. Avoid the fine. Read the sign!

You are responsible for your visitors. If you provide your guests with a parking permit, be sure to guide them to the appropriate visitor spaces.

Use the shuttles! Plan to park your car and leave it until the end of the day. Walk or use the shuttles to other buildings. View the shuttle schedule at: {http://wwwnew.towson.edu/adminfinance/auxservices/parking/}

For group meetings as defined below, contact Parking Services at 410-704-3515 or {upark@towson.edu}:

A group meeting of 10 or more vehicles is considered a special event and must be coordinated through Parking Services.
If your group will have 50 or more, you must obtain approval for parking PRIOR to setting a date for the event. Keep in mind it may not be possible to accommodate large groups during business hours Monday through Friday.

If you have already scheduled events for this fall but have had no discussions about parking, please contact Parking Services at 410-704-3515 as soon as possible.

JANUARY 2007
Fines for parking violations will increase, especially those involving misuse of handicapped spaces. Avoid the fine. Read the sign!
Towing programs will be implemented.

JULY 1, 2007
All guests, visitors and special program attendees will be required to pay for parking. Plan ahead for budget or grant requests if your department provides guest passes.
Formal visitor parking areas will be established. Handicapped parking spaces and some student parking areas will be realigned.

Individuals who pay for parking deserve a parking space and a safe environment. Many parking spaces are available, but they may not be in your favorite garage or lot. New buildings and parking garages will be built in the next several years, and construction may present some special challenges. So take some time to plan ahead and make your trip to campus a smooth one.
