SOFTWARE TIP OF THE WEEK

Word 2007: Insert the File Name and Path in the Footer

Headers and footers are areas in the top and bottom margins of each page in a document. You can add the file name and path of your document to the header or the footer in a Microsoft Word document. This can help you to locate the original Word file if you have a printout of the document.

1. Open an existing Word 2007 document.
2. Click the Insert tab on the Ribbon.
3. In the Header & Footer group, click Footer and choose Blank from the drop down menu.
4. Click the Design contextual tab under Header and Footer Tools on the Ribbon.
5. In the Insert group, click Quick Parts and select Field
6. The Field dialogue box will appear. Click the down arrow under Categories and select Document Information.
7. Under Field names select FileName. On the far right side, click the checkbox entitled Add path to file name.
8. Click OK.
9. You should now have the file name and path inserted into the footer of your document.
10. On the Design contextual tab, click the Close Header and Footer button in the Close group.
