Research shows that of the college students that need help with depression or suicidal ideation, only 11% tell a counselor while 67% will a peer. Due to this, peer support is essential for a campus to provide effective mental health and suicide prevention programs. The Counseling Center is presenting the DORA College Program, which will educate Towson University students, faculty, and staff about symptoms of depression and anxiety. In addition, the presentation will show how to help someone with problems with anxiety and depression and the positive outcomes of seeking help. Finally, the presentation will identify an individual?s risks for developing a mental illness and responsible, health conscious, attitudes toward mental health.
Join us in expanding the peer support on Towson University?s campus. This program will be held on November 30, 2010 at 7:00pm in the University Union Room 307. Call the Counseling Center at (410) 704-2512 with any questions or visit us online at{ www.towson.edu/counseling}.
