Apple Announces Release of Mac OS 10.7 Lion: OTS Preparing Configuration

Apple announced that they will be releasing the new Mac OS 10.7 Lion operating system (OS) in July 2011.The Office of Technology Services (OTS) has started work on a campus Mac OS 10.7 configuration that will be used for university-owned Macs. The configuration will be tested to work with the university network, products and services. The tentative date to complete the university configuration is August 30, 2011.

Will you need to upgrade to Lion?
No. Generally, computers run the operating system (OS) that they were shipped throughout the life cycle of the computer, unless there is a compelling business reason to upgrade to a newer OS. For details on what is involved in an upgrade, see the Guidelines for Upgrading a Mac Operating System at:

After OS 10.7 is released, new university Macs that ship with Lion will be configured by OTS staff.
