A Musical Odyssey in Rhythm Fantasies

The Asian Arts & Culture Center presents a unique ensemble led by Maestro Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman of South India, in a concert of Carnatic music. Maestro Sivaraman, recent recipient of the Padma Bhushan Award from the Government of India, will perform on Mrudangam (barrel shaped double sided hand drum dating back to the Hindu scriptures) accompanied by five top artists from India on Ghatam (clay pot), Violin, Jalatharangam (porcelain bowls filled with water and struck with sticks), Chenda (drum from the state of Kerala beaten with two sticks), Thimilai (hand drum from the state of Kerala), and Edakka (hour glass shaped drum beaten with one stick). Dance and songs by various composers of India will also be presented.
Admission: $15 general, $12 faculty and staff, and seniors; $10 students and AA&CC members; FREE for TU students with valid ID.
