TIGER ATHLETICS: Annual “Have a Heart” CAA Blood Drive Challenge Scheduled for Oct. 25

Towson University will take part in the Colonial Athletic Association “Have a Heart” Blood Drive Challenge on October 25. This is the ninth year for student athletes working with representatives from the American Red Cross to promote the event and show how important donating blood can be.

The Blood Drive will take place in the Potomac Lounge of the University Union from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on October 25. Individuals wishing to participate can pre-register on October 18, 19 and 20 in the University Union from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walk-ins are also welcome on the day of the event.

The CAA “Have a Heart” Blood Drive Challenge was started in 2002 by the league presidents as a way to emphasize blood donation. Each school designates a day in the fall to have a campus-wide blood drive. With the help of the student athletes and Red Cross volunteers a count is kept of the number of people who donate and the units of blood collected. The CAA awards a trophy to the school with the largest number of donors. Since its inception, the challenge has collected over 22,101 units of blood that has helped to save 66,303 lives.

Individuals with questions or wishing to pre-register can contact either Gail Price (gprice@towson.edu) or Lindsey McDonnell (lmcdonnell@towson.edu).
