The College of Graduate Studies and Research – Announcement from Provost Welsh

Dr. Chao Lu has served as Acting Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research (CGSR) for the past three years. He recently made the decision to return to faculty starting this Fall 2010 term. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with Dr. Lu in this administrative capacity during the past year, and I look forward to now working with him as a faculty member in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.

A Task Force has been assembled to study the CGSR during the Fall term to determine if the current structure of the College meets the needs of Towson University as the institution enters the coming decade and the next strategic plan is implemented. Rather than appointing another Acting Dean during this short period, Dr. Larry Shirley, as Associate Dean, will assume responsibility for the Graduate School, and Ms. Mary Louise Healy, as Assistant Vice President for Research, will assume responsibility for the Office of University Research Services. I appreciate the willingness of these two individuals to take leadership roles in the CGSR and know they will have the support of the University community.

Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
