The Towson Literary Reading Series kicks off National Poetry Month with a reading at 4 p.m. this Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Daniel Mark Epstein, acclaimed poet and biographer, visits Towson University to read from his new book of poetry, The Glass House. The Glass House features on its cover a painting by Towson Associate Professor Nora Sturges. The reading will take place in Lecture Hall 238. Arrive early, stay late, win a book!
Daniel Mark Epstein is a biographer, poet, and dramatist whose work has been widely published and performed. Born in Washington, D.C., he was educated at Kenyon College. He has written several volumes of poetry, including most recently The Glass House from LSU Press, and his poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, The Nation, The Paris Review and other magazines and journals. His plays have been produced in regional theater and Off-Broadway. His biographies include Sister Aimee: The Life of Aimee Semple McPherson, now in its fourth printing; Nat King Cole, a 1999 New York Times Notable Book; The Lincolns: Portrait of a Marriage, named one of the Best Books of 2008 by both The Wall Street Journal and The Chicago Sun-Times; and What My Lips Have Kiss: The Love and Love Poems of Edna St. Vincent Millay. His honors include a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and an Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2006.
