African American Read-In to Celebrate Maryland Poets and Writers

Please join us for this year?s African American Read-In, Monday, February, 6, 2006, 4:30 pm-6:30 pm, Susquehanna Terrace, University Union. The African American Read-In Chain, a national literacy initiative founded by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English, in its 17th year, will celebrate Maryland writers and poets of African descent. Guest authors will be Chezia Thompson Cager; professor, Maryland Institute, College of Art; Melvin E. Brown; adjunct professor, Towson University; and R.B. Jones, columnist, The Baltimore Times newspaper. Vincent Thomas, TU Dance Dept., will perform an interpretive dance. Faculty, staff, and students from the Towson community are also invited to read favorite passages by African American writers. Classes and student organizations are welcomed to participate.
