American Sign Language is Alive and Well at Towson University!
There has been confusion about sign language classes at Towson University due to recent curricular changes. If you are interested in taking courses in American Sign Language please note the following.
1. Basic Sign Language (SPPA 205)
This course has been dropped from the curriculum and will no longer be offered at Towson University after the current semester.
2. American Sign Language (ASL) 1 (formerly DFST 206, now DFST 107)
This course is now the introductory course for students interested in learning American Sign Language and fulfills GenEd II.C.1. The course is open to all students and there are no prerequisites. We encourage students who have completed Basic Sign Language and wish to further their signing skills to register for this class.
3. American Sign Language (ASL) 2 (formerly DFST 307, now DFST 207)
This course fulfills GenEd II.C.1. The class is open to students who have completed ASL I (DFST 206 or 107). The former course “Basic Sign Language” (SPPA 205) was not equivalent to ASL 1, and does not fulfill the prerequisite to enter this class.
