19th Annual Towson University Geographic Information Sciences Conference (TUGIS 2006)
The 19th Annual Towson University Geographic Information Sciences Conference (TUGIS 2006) is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, March 20-21, 2006 in the University Union. If you haven’t already done so, please visit the conference Web site at {http://cgis.towson.edu/tugis2006/} to view the program and related information for the conference. This year’s conference theme is “GIS and Local Government: The Base of the Pyramid.” The conference features: plenary presentations by Randy Johnson (Hennepin County, Minnesota) and Kevin Neimond, National Association of Counties, 60 presentations conducted at 24 concurrent sessions (including mini-technical workshops), Exhibit Area, Job Mart, Map Gallery, and 6 post-conference workshops! In addition, TUGIS provides a great opportunity to network with other GIS professionals from the Maryland and Mid-Atlantic regions. Over 400 people are registered to attend TUGIS!
Please note that a significant number of the concurrent sessions this year focus on the use of geographic information systems (GIS) by local governments (counties and municipalities). Our keynote speaker on Monday, Randy Johnson, will be conducting a presentation entitled “GIS from the Computer Room to the Board Room: An Elected Local Official’s Perspective.” The keynote speaker on Tuesday, Kevin Neimond, will be conducting a presentation entitled “Trends in GIS at the County Government Level.”
