The USM Responsible Conduct in Research Conference hosted by the University of Maryland, College Park, April 14th and 15th is now accepting registrations!
Unparalleled scientific advances and challenges are rapidly presenting themselves in our research universities. It is now perhaps more important than ever that we take a moment to assess our procedures to ensure that we are conducting our research in a responsible manner. The great new scientific opportunities that exist today bring with them a complex set of ethical issues. A major goal of this conference is to raise awareness among graduate directors, graduate students, and faculty that training in the responsible conduct of research is an increasingly central component of a successful graduate education.
The Wednesday sessions cover key areas of research integrity, and feature speakers from the American Association for the Advancement of Science; the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Research Integrity; the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP); and Towson’s IRB Chair, Pat Alt (on how USM schools promote research integrity). The Thursday sessions cover human research protection, and include current and former members of the Federal Office of Human Research Protection; a fascinating film on the Stanford prison experiments (using students as prisoners); and best practices discussion groups led by faculty and staff from UMCP, Towson, and UMBC. Registration for both days is free and lunch is provided.
This conference is aimed at graduate directors, faculty, and graduate students.
