Our hearts go out to those whose lives have been so terribly affected by the earthquake in South Central Asia and its aftermath. Students who have relatives or friends in the areas affected, we want you to know that the TU Counseling Center staff is available to provide support. In the event that this disaster has triggered feelings of grief or discomfort for you, counseling is available to you. You could drop by the Counseling Center at the Glen Esk building or call 410-704-2512 should you want to speak with a counselor.
The International Student & Scholar Office is also available if you are in need of resources or support. The ISSO is located in the Administration Building on the second floor. You could call 410-704-2421 to speak with an Advisor, or you could write an e-mail to {isso@towson.edu}.
An additional resource for some students may be the Campus Ministry Center. There are clergy from many faiths at the Center, located in the University Union, Room 208B. Our campus Muslim Coordinator is Dr. Sanaullah Kirmani who is available to talk with and counsel affected students. You could e-mail him at {skirmani@towson.edu} or call him at 410-583-7016 (leave a message for him if he does not answer).
At the Counseling Center web site {http://www.towson.edu/counseling}, you will find information links on coping with disasters, developed by the American Psychological Association and the Center for Disease Control. Information is provided for people both directly and indirectly affected. These helpful websites address what people may feel immediately following and long after a disaster event. There are also strategies for people to help themselves, their families and children and also for those struggling to cope with the shock from afar.
