State Fire Marshal William E. Barnard will present TU with a citation on Monday, August 30 at 1 p.m., in recognition of the university’s status as only the second university or college in the state with fully “sprinklered” residence halls.
The ceremony will take place at Prettyman Hall and will feature a special trailer that demonstrates the effectiveness of the rapid response sprinklers which we have installed. A small fire will be started in a trash can, a fire alarm will sound and the sprinklers will then engage, dousing the flames. A Baltimore County fire engine will also be on hand.
Although not required by National Fire Protection Association or State of Maryland Fire Prevention codes, the upgrading was a university priority.
