WTMD?s First Thursdays Concerts in the Park 2012 season opens this Thursday, May 3 at 5:30 pm in West Mount Vernon Park. Thousands will converge on Mt. Vernon Park to experience live music surrounded by historic architecture, family and friends. This year?s debut concert features The Happen-ins, Diego Garcia and blues legend Joe Louis Walker.
Award-winning blues artist Joe Louis Walker has appeared on Conan and his new CD, ?Hellfire,? brings Rolling Stones-style crunch rock. Diego Garcia?s ?You Were Never There? has swept the country with its lilting melodies and intricate phrasing. The Happen-ins are the newest refugees from Austin and bring a raw garage rock sound to their songs for the lonely.
WTMD?s General Manager Stephen Yasko said, ?This is the most exciting line-up of bands we?ve seen in the park in a long time. Blues, soul and straight ahead rock and roll will be represented and our listeners and the campus community are going to be wowed!?
These free concerts are staged the first Thursday of each month from May to September and feature national artists and Baltimore bands. Food and drink are available and concert goers are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, friends and family. Drawing crowds from downtown to the counties, WTMD?s First Thursday Concerts in the Park create a community gathering place for music lovers and their families to enjoy a relaxed evening in the city, and many patronize the restaurants and shops in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood.
Look for the Monument and Listen for the Music! The shows start at 5:30 and run until about 8:45. Full information, including artist bios, is available at {http://wtmd.org}.
