Every person should be prepared to independently survive the first 72 hours that follow an emergency. To prepare for surviving an emergency situation, make sure to keep three basic items in your home:
– Water. Have enough water to last for three days, at one gallon per person per day.
– Flashlight. Keep a flashlight in a safe place where you can easily find it in an emergency. Remember to keep extra batteries on hand.
– Battery-powered radio. A radio may be the only way that you can receive information if the power goes out.
Once you have these basic items, work to build a more extensive emergency kit. For more information on emergency preparedness, call the TUPD at x4-2505.
