The Towson University Police Department would like you to be aware that one of the State of Maryland?s most important additions to cell phone directives is about to be enacted at the end of this week.
Effective October 1, 2011, Maryland will strengthen its current text messaging ban for all drivers. Current state law bans drivers from texting while the vehicle is in motion. The new law also prohibits all drivers from reading text messages while driving and bans writing or reading text messages while stopped at a traffic light. Drivers found guilty of violating this law can be fined up to $500.
