CANS will continue testing for the implementation of the campus firewall 5-11 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30. A firewall is a mechanism that protects internal computers from outside intrusion such as viruses, worms and other unauthorized users.
During testing, CANS will place the firewall between the Towson University servers and the Internet. As a result, Internet resources, including e-mail, will be unavailable to on-campus users. Any Internet content that is provided by TU servers will be unavailable to off-campus users, as well.
The firewall is part of an ongoing information technology initiative to increase and improve security for the campus network. Please refer to {http://wwwnew.towson.edu/cans/faculty/policy/security/firewall.asp} for more information on the firewall.
If you have any additional questions, please contact the Firewall Installation Team at {firewall@towson.edu}.
