The university?s H: and O: network drives will be unavailable to campus users 6 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Nov. 16.
During the downtime, the H: and O: drives will be moved to new hardware to improve reliability and storage capacity.
Faculty and staff should save and close all open files before leaving work Friday evening. In addition, individuals should restart their computers Monday morning to ensure machines connect properly to network drives. To restart your computer, go to the Start menu, select Shut Down and choose Restart.
H: drives will move from the “white” server to the “gold.? Individuals who manually map to network drives will need to update the H: drive path to reflect the new server name.
Most campus computers automatically map to network drives and will NOT need to be manually updated. If you are unsure whether or not you manually map to the network drives, restart your computer Monday. If the H: drive is not visible, please contact the Computing and Network Services Help Center at 410-704-5151.
To map your network drive to reflect the new server name:
1. Right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.
2. Click Map Network Drive.
3. In the “Drive:” drop-down menu, choose the drive letter to which you wish to map the network connection.
4. In the “Folder:” field, type the name of the new network share (e.g., \goldusername$ instead of \whiteusername$).
5. If you wish to have the drive connect every time you log in to this computer, select the “Reconnect at logon” option.
6. Click Finish.
Please contact the Help Center at 410-704-5151 or {helpcenter@towson.edu} if you have any additional questions.
