FAQ?s

There is never close parking if I arrive on campus after 8:30 a.m. Where can I park if I arrive on campus and all garages are full?
While we wish there were always spaces available on the core campus, the reality is that a large portion of available parking is located in the Towson Center parking lots (lot 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21). After 8:30 a.m. we recommend you proceed to Towson Center in order to avoid wasting time searching for parking on the core campus. The university shuttle bus system operates from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., Monday to Friday, and stops at lots 13/14, the Towson Center, Towson Run, and numerous core campus locations.

Why do I have to have a permit? As a part-time or evening student, do I really need to purchase a parking hangtag?
Yes, everyone is required to purchase a permit if they park on campus between the hours of 6 a.m. Monday, 24 hours a day, through 3 p.m. Friday. This helps to ensure that those who have purchased a permit have a place to park. You can obtain a parking permit through the Auxiliary Services Business Office (UU118) or through the Web site: {http://parking.towson.edu}. (WHEN PERMISSIBLE)

If I have a valid parking permit, can I park at a meter without paying?
No, meters are intended for visitors, although students may utilize parking meters as long as there is time on the meter.

Is it all right to park in front of a building, along a fire lane, in loading docks, etc. as long as I put on my flasher for a short period?
No, not even for one minute. Parking in front of a building, along yellow curbs, in fire lanes, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, in loading docks or in areas marked with ?No Parking? signage is prohibited at all times. In order to maintain a safe environment for you, we strictly enforce these types of violations through citations and towing.

If I borrow someone?s handicap tag/permit can I park in a handicapped space? Is it OK to park in a handicapped space for a short period of time?
No, handicapped spaces are in place to allow individuals in need to have access to the campus community. University Police conduct random verification of those parking in accessible areas. Improper use of plates or permits by anyone other than the disabled individual is illegal and may result in fines and university sanctions.

Since the university issues citations and not the county, do I need to worry about them?
Yes, the university has been granted the authority by the State of Maryland to issue citations on campus property. As such, the university has implemented several methods for the collection of unpaid citations. These include: transferring balances to the student?s financial account with the Bursar?s Office; restricting the ability to register for classes, obtain transcripts or diplomas; flagging vehicle registrations with the MVA; and transferring outstanding balances to the State of Maryland collection agency.
