Should Mosk have unmasked MD4Bush? Another ethical dilemma facing journalism today.

The Towson University Society of Professional Journalists is co-sponsoring a panel discussion on the MD4Bush scandal that erupted last fall after reporter Matthew Mosk of The Washington Post wrote a series of articles implicating Joseph Steffen in the rumor-mongering plaguing gubernatorial rivals Robert Ehrlich and Martin O’Malley. The stories originated with an anonymous source, MD4Bush, who gave Mosk access to e-mail records on FreeRepublic.com. The dilemma is multi-faceted: Should Mosk have used the information offered by MD4Bush? Should he have identified the source? Should MD4Bush have provided Mosk with the username and password for the FreeRepublic account?

All students and faculty are welcome to attend. The panel will convene May 9 at 7 p.m. in Linthicum 305. Refreshments will be provided.
