Safari Web Browser Not Recommended for University Windows Systems

If you run Apple software–such as iTunes–on a university Windows computer, recent Apple Software Updates will include an option for installing the Safari Web browser. Safari is not supported for the Windows platform at Towson University and may not be compatible with university Web sites such as Towson Online Services, Virtual Workspace, and Blackboard. Safari is not required to run iTunes on your computer.

Unless there is a business reason for running the Safari Web browser the recommendation is not to install it on university Windows computers. To run Apple Software Update in Windows without installing the Safari browser, uncheck the box to install Safari when prompted to do so during the update installation.

If you have questions regarding university standard Web browsers for Macs, please call the OTS faculty/staff Help Center at 410-704-5151, (2+2+2 on the voice menu).
