The Office of Technology Services (OTS) would like to welcome you back to campus. We’ve had a busy summer completing the following upgrades and service enhancements that may help you with your work at the university.
1. All Faculty and Staff H: drives have been upgraded from 1GB to 3GB. This is the preferred location for faculty and staff to store data and email archives since it is backed up and won?t be lost if you experience a hard drive failure in your PC. Files stored on H: are also easily accessible through the Virtual Workspace.
2. H: (personal shares), O: (departmental shares), and custom cross-departmental shares are now running on redundant hardware making them much more reliable.
3. Virtual Workspace ({http://vw.towson.edu}) continues to be the preferred remote access solution. If you have not yet utilized Virtual Workspace while off campus, give it a try!
4. The Blackboard learning environment has been upgraded to version 7.2. Check out {http://www.towson.edu/facultyonline} to see the new features, and email {blackboard@towson.edu} with any questions about the new version.
5. Office 2007 is now available in the Virtual Workspace, and all faculty and staff wishing to use it can start right away! If you are interested in having your entire department upgrade to Office 2007, please contact Michael Bachman at {mbachman@towson.edu}.
6. Towson purchased an enterprise license for SPSS, and all on-campus computers (and the Virtual Workspace) are eligible to run the program. Please contact the OTS Help Center if you are interested in installing SPSS.
7. Web page authors currently using Adobe Contribute can now access the latest version of Contribute in Virtual Workspace, making it easier to update university web pages from off-campus locations.
8. OTS is currently working on a new Vista desktop image that will begin being distributed on new on-campus computers toward the end of the year. If you have questions or would like to be involved in building the image, please contact Mark Addy at {maddy@towson.edu}.
9. SharePoint services are now available to faculty and staff for administrative use. Please see {http://sharepoint.towson.edu} for more information.
