Moving Beyond Chrismukkah: How We Think About Christian-Jewish Interfaith Families

The Jewish Studies Program invites everyone to “Moving Beyond Chrismukkah: How We Think About Christian-Jewish Interfaith Families” on Monday, November 5th at 5pm in LA 4110. The speaker, Dr. Samira Mehta, is an Assistant Professor of American religion at Albright College in Reading, PA. She is the author of Beyond Chrismukkah: The Christian-Jewish Interfaith Family in the United States (UNC Press, 2018) and is a nationally-known expert on the dynamics of interfaith families. The talk will combine elements of sociology, religious studies, history, ethnography, and other fields and is aimed at moving the national conversation away from a simplistic view of the way these families navigate the holidays, and toward an understanding of the way that the important and personal choices each family makes are impacting our national religious landscape. The event is cosponsored by Interdisciplinary Studies, Jewish Studies, American Studies, The Baltimore Hebrew Institute at Towson University, the Departments of Family Studies and Community Development, History, and Philosophy and Religious Studies. Please contact Dr. Jenny Caplan (jcaplan@towson.edu) for any further information.
