If you’ve walked by Cook Beach in the month of October, you’ve probably noticed the purple flags spread out across the lawn. Well this Wednesday, they will be coming down as we reach the end of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Sexual Assault Peer Educators (SAPEs) have taken national statistics about domestic violence and applied them to Towson University. Each one of the 6,677 purple flags represents a Towson student who has been, or may be in an unhealthy or abusive relationship in their lifetime. We hope you have had a chance to stop by and learn more about the importance of healthy relationships, warning signs of an unhealthy relationship, bystander intervention, and the impact that relationship violence can have on an individual and community. If you or someone you know needs support related to relationship violence you can schedule an appointment with the Counseling Center or reach out to Turn Around Inc. or call their 24-hr helpline at 443-279-0379.
