Take Great Fireworks Pictures on Your iPhone
Happy 4th of July! We’ve scoured the internet in search of great tips for taking pictures of fireworks on your iOS device. If you happen to snag a couple of good shots, send them our way and let us know which tips you followed!
- Turn off your flash – The flash on your iPhone can delay the picture as well as illuminate objects that are closer to you. You want as much of the light coming from the fireworks as possible.
- Take burst shots – Hold down the shutter in the camera app and the iPhone will take photos in rapid succession. Go through the burst photos later to pick out your favorite shots.
- Free up space – Before you head out to watch the fireworks, make sure that you have plenty of storage space on your phone available to house your pictures.
- Do not zoom – Using the zoom on the iPhone will make your photos grainy and it will be harder to take a steady shot. If you choose to use the zoom, use a tripod.
- Use a tripod – If you have the space, set up a tripod and have your phone ready to go. This will steady your shots and reduce blurry pictures.
- Lock your focus – In the camera app, hold your finger on the screen where you would like to focus until AE/AF LOCK appears at the top center of your screen. To exit AE/AF LOCK, tap somewhere else on the screen.
- Experiment with exposure – Touch the sun icon beside the yellow box and swipe up or down to adjust the exposure. This can be used with AE/AF LOCK. If you don’t like the result, tap somewhere else on the screen to reset.
Note: Depending on the model of your iPhone and it’s operating system some of the settings may not be available.
