Melodia Mae Rinaldi, soprano (’18) is the winner of the Henry Sanborn Music Scholarship Competition for 2017.
Ms. Rinaldi is a Bachelor of Science major in Music Education and is a student of Prof. Teri Bickham. Her program included a variety of opera arias and art songs and was accompanied by pianist, Ka Nyoung Yoo. An awards ceremony concluded the recital and was led by Department of Music Scholarship Committee chair Prof. Jason Rigby. Ms. Rinaldi was presented in public recital on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in the Center for the Arts Recital Hall.
Dr. Henry Sanborn came to Towson University in the mid 1960s to teach in the Economics Department. His Ph.D. is from the University of Chicago, where he studied with the eminent economist Milton Friedman. A devout lover of music, he studied piano here in the Department of Music’s Preparatory Department with Ed Berlett. After he retired from teaching, Henry first endowed a scholarship in piano and later added to the endowment to create a scholarship in voice as well. Throughout his life, Henry Sanborn was generous with his time, energy, and resources. Even now after his death, his legacy continues to benefit numerous students, charities, and institutions.
