COFAC Colloquium 33 features Kalin Kirilov, Department of Music presenting Bulgarian Tambura: Tradition & Innovation.
This presentation traces the history and development of the tambura, a long-necked 8-string Bulgarian lute related to the Turkish saz and the Greek bouzouki. The presentation also reflects on the main outcome from Professor Kirilov’s sabbatical project, namely the recording of a CD with Bulgarian music which contains “classic” tambura repertoire and several original compositions performed by him.
