Check Out Cook Library’s New LGBTQ+ Resource Guide!

Closeup of a face and green eye with a rainbow flag on topThis resource guide (otherwise known as infoPlaylist) originated with a desire to showcase books from Cook Library’s collection that have LGBTQ character representation, explore LGBTQ history, or focus on LGBTQ issues in some way. Some of these titles were included in display case for LGBTQ History Month, but it was noted that LGBTQ materials should be digitally listed as a resource for individuals who are interested. This led to the creation of several book lists, which are separated by intended audience. We have also decided to provide links to external resources, mostly from various LGBTQ organizations. These websites can be useful for both straight/cisgender people who wish learn more about the LGBTQ community, and for people who are part of the LGBTQ community themselves.

We hope this guide deepens your knowledge of LGBTQ accomplishments and struggles throughout history, including the oft-erased contributions of LGBTQ individuals to society. We also hope to increase visibility for LGBTQ individuals in the present who are looking for representation and may be just beginning to understand their own identities. This work of highlighting visible tradition and connecting past to present is crucial for recognizing and appreciating the LGBTQ community.

This infoPlaylist was authored by Ash Baker, an undergraduate student in the 2017 A-LIST cohort.  Ash, who uses they/them pronouns, is a member of the LGBTQ community and is an LGBT Studies minor.
