TU joins Ohio University and universities across the country in reminding our community this Halloween that: “We’re a culture, not a costume.” Halloween costumes that are based on ethnic, racial, religious, gender, ability, and other cultural stereotypes are hurtful and reduce people’s identities into caricatures. Your intent may be far different than the impact: what you might want to wear for one night of fun is a stigma that others wear for life.
At Towson University we value respect for all people and encourage that all members of the TU community avoid wearing offensive costumes and continue to “represent Towson University proudly.”
