Don’t take the bait! Be aware of fake Google emails

The start of the semester is prime time for hackers to send phishing email scams to student email accounts – and you are the University’s best line of defense. The Office of Information Security in the Office of Technology Services (OTS) reminds students to pay extra close attention when receiving an email that is supposedly from Google. Any urgent threat, especially emails that threaten to delete an account if no action is taken, is a potential red flag for a phishing scam. If you aren’t sure an email is legit, send it to phishing@towson.edu, and the Office of Information Security will verify if it is safe to open.

Access resources for recognizing phishing, and see recent examples of actual phishing attempts at TU at www.towson.edu/phishing.
