Don’t fall for it: Unexpected emails with links

Read today’s Phish Tank scenario and if you get a similar email, be sure to follow the “what to know” advice.

The phish: An email appears to be from the “Help Desk” or someone you know that says you must immediately click on links to prevent problems with your account. See an actual email example of this type of phish.

What to know:

  • If you are not expecting the email, be wary. You will always be given notice from the Office of Technology Services (OTS) when password updates are due.
  • Don’t click! Hover over the link that is provided to see where it will send you.
  • Contact the sender or the OTS Help Center at 410-704-5151 to confirm if there is an issue with your account.
  • Forward the email to phishing@towson.edu, and then delete the email from your inbox.
