The Monument Quilt is returning to Towson University! The Quilt is a bright, red, hand-sewn testament of survival, and a crowd-sourced collection of thousands of stories from survivors of rape and abuse. The Monument Quilt is a platform to not only tell our stories, but to work together to create a new culture where survivors are publicly supported rather than publicly shamed. Sections of the quilt have been witnessed across the United States through tours, quilt making workshops, and a historic display in our nation’s capital.
An ongoing project to create a public healing space for survivors of rape and abuse, each 4-square-foot piece is a story created by a survivor of sexual assault or domestic violence. Over 450 such stories will be displayed at Towson University to call attention to the sexual assaults that occur on campuses across the country. Through public recognition, the goal of the Monument quilt is to reconnect survivors to their community.
The quilt will be displayed from Thursday, March 30th, 1pm through Friday, March 31st, 4pm on the CLA lawn. In case of inclement weather, the display will be rescheduled for May 5th-May 6th.
