Color-Blind Justice: Race and Cognitive Bias in the Forensic Sciences

Multiculturalism in Action Brown Bag Series

Wednesday, March 1, 12:00 to 1:15pm, College of Liberal Arts building, room 4150

This Multiculturalism in Action Brown Bag Series workshop will be presented by Dr. Jeff Kukucka, Department of Psychology. Forensic science examiners often reach different conclusions about the same evidence, depending on the context in which it is presented. Given that over 60% of exonerees are people of color, might knowledge of a suspect’s race change how evidence is analyzed, and increase the risk of a costly error? We will discuss this possibility and reforms designed to address it. Light refreshments will be provided.
