Martha A. Mitten Lecture Series on Trauma Hosts Guest Lecturer, Alexander “Sandy” McFarlane

The College of Liberal Arts is hosting the visit of guest lecturer, Alexander “Sandy” McFarlane, as part of its Martha A. Mitten Lecture Series on Trauma. Dr. McFarlane’s lecture is entitled “The Prolonged and Unanticipated Impact of Traumatic Stress: The Need for the Clinical Staging of PTSD.” Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Centre for Traumatic Stress Studies at The University of Adelaide in Adelaide, South Australia, Dr. McFarlane is an international expert in the field of the impact of disasters and posttraumatic stress disorder. He has held the role of Senior Adviser in Psychiatry to the Australian Defence Force and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. In addition, he has significant experience in the provision of care to emergency service personnel. His research is supported by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the NHMRC program and partnership grants. Dr. McFarlane has published over 350 articles and chapters in various refereed journals and has co-edited three books.
