OTS Training Tip of the Week

Freeze Panes in Excel

Do you often forget what column you’re in when scrolling through large sets of data? The Freeze Panes tool can help! Freezing panes allows you to keep certain rows or columns on your screen at all times.

To freeze panes:

  1. Select the cell below and to the right of the cell or cells you wish to freeze. (Wherever your selected cell is sitting, the cells above and to the left will freeze)
  2. Click on the View tab/Window group.
  3. Click on Freeze Panes/Freeze Panes. Begin to scroll and notice the cells that stay.

To unfreeze panes:

  1. Click on the View tab/Window group.
  2. Click on Freeze Panes/Unfreeze Panes.
