Dr. Drew Morton is an Assistant Professor of Mass Communication at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. He is the author of Panel to the Screen: Style, American Film, and Comic Books during the Blockbuster Era and the co-founder and co- editor of [in]Transition: Journal of Videographic Film & Moving Image Studies (a MediaCommons and Cinema Journal project).

The pedagogical rewards of the video essay format include access to a powerful tool in the advancement of visual literacy as well as providing a great venue for a course assignment (if not an entire class) that can bridge theory and practice. As an instructor, you are providing a taste of the “practical skills” that some institutions have been advocating while simultaneously hitting the marks that we value in a liberal arts education. Further, for scholarship and research goals, the institutional infrastructure necessary to validate this work with the peer-review process is being established as new publication opportunities grow.

Dr. Morton is one of the foundational educators and scholars in this growing field, so please come and join us for his presentation and discussion!
