Join us for an evening of poetic self-expression highlighting the bubbling up of anger, distrust, identity and resolution. This program will feature artists Jasmine Mans, Jacob Mayberry and Mercedez Holtry.
Jasmine Mans: African American author, performer, poet, teacher, who enjoys having various forums to express her thoughts, moods, opinions and a voice to speak out on behalf of others and the community around her. She is the recipient of the Star Ledger – NJPAC; Arts Millennia; and (New York) Knicks Poetry Slam Scholarships and awards.
Jacob Mayberry: J. Tesla started rapping @ the age of eight, began writing at twelve and at 17 he started learning spoken word. Since then he has made a name for himself performing in the Baltimore college open mic scene, competing in college slams and Talent shows and coaching Baltimore’s champion spoken word high school club Woodlawn’s R.A.P. Jacob is a coach for BCYPT youth slam team and a multiple time winner of the Slammagedon series. Tesla is Ill lyricism expressed through dope Hip-Hop beats/concepts.
Mercedez Holtry: Slam poet, writer, student, mentor, and Chicana feminist who focuses on bringing out her roots, experiences and lessons learned through her poetry in hopes that they embrace her people and other artists around her. Mercedez is passionate about spoken word and aspires to continually learn all she can about her art through working and slamming for her community.
